Amrita brings 27 years of experience in instructing, choreographing, and performing Indian Dance Globally. Amrita is also a dance therapist and performs anthropological research in dance. This Bollywood workshop series explores the joy, grace, technique and the beauty of Bollywood dances. Originally from India, Amrita was trained since 4 years of age by her mother, who was a dancer in India, and then she trained in India in Classical/Sacred, folkloric, Gypsy and modern Indian dance; all of which incorporates what Bollywood dance truly is, a fusion of the multi-dimensional dance forms of India. Amrita’s workshops offer the student the rich, vibrant traditions of Indian dance in an easy to learn, joyful manner!
This workshop is open to all, men and women, bollywood dancing is equally done by men and women, in the movies, the men are very active dancers along with the women.
Attire: comfortable cotton loose clothes, preferably a top with some color (not black), no sweatpants/jogging pants if possible, if they have veils to bring them. Bare feet always, no oriental dance shoes please unless someone has orthodics problems, very good meal 1 hour before coming to class, bring plenty of water/juice.
Amrita is running a Bollywood/Gypsy/Indian Dance course in Montreal, and will be in Ottawa for a yoga/dance workshop at Rama Lotus on Saturday June 20th.
